I use it on MDF as it is alcohol based and therefore no water to swell the edges up. It dries very hard and is also sands to a powder. My steps would be: 1. Prime the edges with BIN (you don't have to be perfect as it will sand easily.) 2. Sand lightly with a soft sanding block or profile to reduce the fuzz and BIN. 3. Clean up dust and coat again.

The MDF edge will absorb a lot of glue, so spread on a light coat, give it a minute to soak in, and apply another bead before you add the wood nosing. Don't use a hammer Power nailers work best Unless you're willing to drill a hole for every single nail, don't plan on using a hammer. Without a hole, the nail will probably bend in rock-hard MDF.

Sanding sealer is commonly used by cabinetmakers to seal all kinds of MDF. Sanding sealer is nothing more than extra-thick lacquer . It has a dense particle-load that builds quickly on the surface of the MDF to protect it from moisture.

Oct 5, 2021Low-density fibreboard (LDF) LDF - as it is aptly named - is a composite wood material with a lower density ranging from .35g/ cm 3 to .5g/cm 3. For most CNC applications, it is considered the better spoilboard option because its lighter weight and density allow for better suction between the board and the vacuum beneath the table.

Let the primer dry for six hours. Step two is to apply the sealant or water-resistant paint, using a 3/8-inch roller. Use a paintbrush to paint the corners and edges. This layer should take about four hours to dry. Step three is your final layer of paint or sealant; allow a drying time of at least three days to make the MDF moisture-resistant.

The sealer protects by wrapping plywood in a plastic water-resistant covering. However, you can give plywood even better water-proofing by sealing it with Aquarium sealant. Aquarium sealant is a silicon sealer that is regularly used on marine ships, aquariums, vivariums, and outdoor plumbing. Still, plywood can be a bit tricky to seal up properly.

We sprayed the edges of the MDF with an acid catalysed sealer before it was sanded prior to undercoating. A quick smooth over with 150 grit with the fingers didn't round the corners. This allowed the undercoat to build without soaking into the edge. Wiping PVA glue onto the edge works quite well, too. Logged EcoFurniture Posts: 608

You could cut the piece with the edge 1/32" - 1/16" short and fill it with Bondo, then sand it flat and square. Assuming the corners will NEVER be nicked, it will work. Are you rounding the corners over at all? If you insist on painting them, you can seal the edge with whatever will penetrate, then sand it smooth.
