My car has a scraping or grinding noise which sounds like it is coming from the engine where the serpentine belt is located. It gets worse as the car is driven, and doesn't seem to be detectable when the car has been turned off for a while and allowed to cool down. If you start it back up and allow it to just idle, the noise seems to have ...

Is the grinding sound coming from the front or rear brakes. If it's from the rear, the emergency brake could be binding up when you're backing up and releaseing as soon as you start driving forward. May 18, 2022A dirty pool vacuum is one of the many reasons your pump isn't pulling water. It can also cause a grinding noise because the pump can't pull as much water as it should. This process can overheat the motor. How To Fix Here's what I suggest: Turn off the pump, disconnect the vacuum, and remove all of the debris from the pump's basket.

At a steady throttle the engine probably rests a bit and lowers into position, or at least away from what's causing the noise. Acceleration really works the motor mounts and if they are shot then they can move around a bit. What I'm saying is Bigunit's diagnosis may be right on target and I'm just adding a bit of color to his play by play call.

jayupark said: it's not a clicking noise (that and there being no tear makes me think it's not the CV joint), it's more of a grinding/scraping metal on metal noise. High or low speed, it happens when the car leans to the left (i.e. a hard right turn). Neutral, in gear, it's the same. The noise is coming from the driver's side near the front (I ...

If so, you may have a bad wheel bearing on the right side. It doesn't have to be loose to make noise. But it's an indication it may be going bad. Even at 13,000 miles, it doesn't mean it's not bad. I've had bad ones out of the box. 0 Comment (s) 2003- 3500 RWD Automatic.

That cyclical "grinding" noise as you call it sounds like the PTU, which can be heard when you are sitting over the wing area immediately after engine shut down and just after engine start. What is happening is that this PTU (Power Transfer Unit) is acting as a hydraulic pump for the opposite side hydraulic system.

If the noise is heard again (and is louder), shut it down while still in gear. Then inspect the gears in the transmission. You may have a sloppy (or cracked and ready to fail) shift fork that is allowing the wrong gears to contact each other slightly. Inspect the gear edges for signs of new wear.

Sep 10, 2022#2 Good place to start as you've outlined. A cracked flex plate is a possibility also. Not sure but if you can separate the converter from the flex plate and crank it up and see if the noise is gone. That would eliminate the possibility of a bad converter or trans pump. If the wheel bearing is bad, then it will make loud noises, something like metal grinding. And the noise will grow louder every time. If none of the above signs are coming to you, then maybe the gears and couplings, F&R switch wires, loose bolts, solenoid, F&P switch, etc. It can be damaged. Or perhaps your cart is out of fluid oil.

If you hear grinding while pulling straight into/out of your driveway or garage, you can probably rule out the diff, as they become vocal around bends/turns. Sounds like the motor/trans shifted back towards diff somehow and used all the slack in the drivetrain??
